Best mobile app development in Poland: agency, freelancer or senior studio?

Best mobile app development in Poland: a decision flow from your project to an agency, a freelancer or a senior one-person studio, with five checks before you sign
How to choose the best mobile app development partner: three kinds of partners, the projects each one fits and five checks before you sign.

The best mobile app development partner in Poland is the one that fits your scope, budget and way of working, not the first name on a paid ranking. You can hire an agency, a freelancer or a senior one-person studio, and each fits a different kind of project. I run a studio like that, RS Mobile in Gliwice, so I will also say when an agency is the better choice. Below I show how to find the best mobile app development team for your case, with red flags, questions to ask before you sign, contract basics and dated 2026 rates.

How do you find the best mobile app development partner in Poland?

Start with your project, not with a list of the best mobile app development companies. Three facts decide most of the choice: the size of the first release, how fast the team must grow and who will maintain the app after launch. Write them down on half a page before you talk to anyone.

Then look for proof. The best mobile app development teams show apps you can install, code they can walk you through and the people who will do the work. A polished website or a directory badge proves much less.

If you want the best mobile app development team in Poland, the pool is large. Eurostat counted 778,800 ICT specialists there in 2025, the most among the EU’s Central and Eastern European members. If you are still choosing a country, compare Poland vs other countries first.

Agency, freelancer or senior one-person studio: who fits which project

All three can build a good app. They differ in team size, cost and what happens when someone gets ill, so the right choice depends on your project.

Agency, freelancer or senior studio at a glance
Aspect Agency Freelancer Senior one-person studio
Best for A big scope, a team from day one, 24/7 support One well-defined task or an extra pair of hands An MVP or product built end to end by one senior
You talk to A project manager The developer The developer who writes the code
Grows by Adding people fast Hardly at all Building in stages
Main risk Juniors on your project, more hand-offs No backup when they are away One person, so you need a handover plan
Price signal in Poland PLN 150–400 net an hour, by role PLN 180–280 net an hour Priced by scope, starting with a proof of concept

Hourly rates: Devstock, August 2026 (in Polish).

An agency is the right call when you need several people at once, round-the-clock support or a large company’s procedures. Freelancers work well when you can define the task and manage it yourself. A senior studio sits in between: one experienced engineer builds the backend, the apps and the release, with no hand-offs.

Is a one-person studio a good choice for an MVP?

Often, yes, because an MVP needs decisions more than headcount. One senior can design the API, build the app and ship it with no meetings between layers. For example, I built Turlo’s backend, web app and native 2.0 apps for iOS and Android as its only engineer, between September 2025 and September 2026.

The weak spot is continuity. If I am ill, nobody else on my side knows the code. So the code can sit in your own repository from the first commit, with setup notes another developer can follow. The handover itself is part of the contract, agreed before work starts. Ask any one-person studio for the same. And if you need 24/7 on-call support or ten people in the first month, hire an agency instead.

Native, Flutter or React Native: what to ask before you choose

Native apps use Swift on iOS and Kotlin on Android. Cross-platform tools such as Flutter and React Native share one codebase across both platforms. Kotlin Multiplatform sits in between: it shares the logic, and since May 2025 its shared UI layer, Compose Multiplatform, is stable on iOS as well.

No approach is right for every app. Ask the vendor these questions, and listen for reasons rather than loyalty to one tool:

  • Which features need the device: camera, Bluetooth, background location or payments?
  • How should the app look and behave on each platform, and who decides?
  • Who updates the app when Apple or Google ships a new OS version, and how fast?
  • Can you show a live app in both stores that you built this way?

Turlo’s 2.0 apps are native: SwiftUI on iOS and Jetpack Compose on Android. They share one API and one set of translations with the web app, so all 16 languages come from one source.

Android and Kotlin development in Poland

Google has called Android development Kotlin-first since 2019. Jetpack Compose, its modern UI toolkit, works only with Kotlin, according to Android Developers. So strong Android teams use both every day. For a new app, Java-only Android experience is a warning sign. If you outsource Android work to Poland, ask to see Kotlin and Compose code from a live app. My own Android work for Turlo is Kotlin with Jetpack Compose.

Ask about this year’s Google Play rules too. Since 31 August 2026, new apps and updates must target Android 16 (API level 36). Google’s developer verification applies from 30 September 2026 in Brazil, Indonesia, Singapore and Thailand, with a global rollout planned for 2027. Apple and Google both ask organisations for a D-U-N-S number, so request it early and open the store accounts in your company’s name.

Red flags in a mobile app proposal

Even a vendor with a good reputation can send a weak proposal. Watch for these signs:

  • No names. The proposal does not say who will write the code. You meet a senior in the sales call, and juniors do the work.
  • Code at the end. You get the source code only after the final payment. Instead, ask for access to your own repository from the first week.
  • Their store accounts. The vendor plans to publish the app under its own Apple or Google account, so moving it later takes time.
  • No hours behind the price. A fixed price without an estimate per feature hides what you pay for.
  • “We start tomorrow.” Devstock warns that an instant start with no dates usually means the firm still has to find the people.
  • A price far below the market. It usually means a different team from the one you think you are buying.
  • No word on tests or updates. Every iOS and Android release needs testing and a store review.

One of these is a reason to ask more questions. Two or more are a reason to keep looking.

Questions to ask before you sign

The best mobile app development partners answer these in writing, without fuss:

  1. Who exactly will write the code, and can I talk to them this week?
  2. Can I install two apps you built, one on iOS and one on Android?
  3. Will the code be in my repository from day one?
  4. How do you estimate, and what is the estimate per feature?
  5. Which tests run before each release?
  6. What happens if the lead developer is away for a month?
  7. How much does maintenance cost after launch, and what does it include?

What mobile app development costs in Poland in 2026

Rates in Poland depend on who you hire. Devstock puts a software house hour at PLN 150–400 net, depending on the role, and an experienced freelancer at PLN 180–280. For context, Just Join IT’s 2026 salary report shows senior B2B contractors earning a median of PLN 24,260 a month, or about PLN 144 an hour.

Item PLN About EUR Source
Software house hour, by role 150–400 €34–91 Devstock, August 2026
Experienced freelancer, per hour 180–280 €41–64 Devstock, August 2026
Simple app or MVP, 3–5 screens 40,000–100,000 €9,100–22,800 CenaUslug.pl, May 2026
Medium app: logins, payments, push 100,000–350,000 €22,800–80,000 CenaUslug.pl, May 2026
My proof of concept: one flow on real data, 2–4 weeks 10,000–25,000 €2,300–5,700 RS Mobile invoices
My maintenance, per month 1,000–2,000 €230–460 RS Mobile invoices

EUR at the NBP mid rate of 9 October 2026 (1 EUR = 4.3775 PLN), rounded. App budgets: CenaUslug.pl (in Polish).

Store fees come on top. Apple charges $99 a year for its Developer Program, and Google Play takes a one-time $25 registration fee. Plan for yearly upkeep as well: CenaUslug.pl and Netguru both put it at 15–20% of the build cost a year. A higher rate alone does not buy a better app, because a senior who needs fewer hours often costs less in total.

Contracts: IP transfer, code in your repository, GDPR

Polish law is strict about software ownership, which protects you if the contract is right. Under the Copyright Act, a transfer of economic rights is void without written form (Article 53). It also covers only the fields of use the contract lists (Article 41). For software, that list should include copying, changing and distributing the code (Article 74).

Under Polish law, written form means a handwritten signature or a qualified electronic signature. An employee’s code belongs to the employer by default, but a contractor on a B2B contract is not an employee. Without a transfer clause, the developer keeps the copyright, and you may only get a licence (Article 65).

Even a good partner needs a clear contract on two more points. Keep the code in your repository and the store accounts in your company’s name. If the developer will see personal data, sign a data processing agreement under Article 28 of the GDPR. With my clients, we agree IP, NDA and handover terms in the contract before work starts.

Why there is no top-10 list of best mobile app development companies here

Because I cannot write one honestly. I run a competing studio, so any ranking from me would be biased. Many public lists of the best mobile app development companies also mix paid placement, review counts and company size. None of those tell you who fits your app.

A better shortlist comes from your own criteria: apps you can install, people you can talk to and a contract you can read. Run the red flags and questions above on three candidates. After one call with each, the best mobile app development partner for your case is usually clear.

FAQ — best mobile app development in Poland

What is the best mobile app development company in Poland? There is no single one. The best mobile app development company for you is the one whose people, process and contract fit your project. Check them with the questions above rather than a ranking.

How much does a mobile app cost in Poland? A simple app or MVP costs about PLN 40,000–100,000 net (€9,100–22,800), according to CenaUslug.pl. Medium apps with logins, payments and push notifications cost PLN 100,000–350,000. With me, a proof of concept costs PLN 10,000–25,000 and takes 2–4 weeks.

Should I hire a freelancer or an agency? Hire a freelancer for a clear, small task you can manage yourself. Choose an agency when you need several people at once or 24/7 support. A senior studio fits an MVP built end to end by one experienced engineer. Each can be the right choice for the right project.

Who owns the code of my app? You do, if the contract transfers the rights in writing and lists the fields of use. Without that clause, a Polish developer keeps the copyright, and you may only get a licence.

Is a one-person studio safe for a long-term app? It can be, as long as the code sits in your repository with documentation and the store accounts are yours. Then another developer can take over at any time.

Summary: choosing the best mobile app development partner

Start from your scope, then match it to the right kind of partner. Check proof you can install, read the contract for ownership and store accounts, and compare dated rates with estimated hours. In short, the best mobile app development partner is the one you can verify, not the one at the top of a list.

At RS Mobile, I build web platforms and native iOS and Android apps end to end, from the backend to the stores. The Turlo case study shows one engineer building web, iOS and Android.
